Planning & Zoning

The City of Roswell Planning and Zoning Department is involved in a myriad of services ranging from initial development review procedures to long range planning activities. The department administers the Comprehensive Master Plan, the Downtown Master Plan, and the Land Use Plan.

We promote the best use of the community's land and resources for residential, commercial, institutional, and recreational purposes while addressing environmental, economic, and social health issues of Roswell as it grows and changes. This focuses on planning as it relates to new construction, residential housing, and infrastructure development.

Ordinance Administration

The department also administers the City of Roswell Zoning Ordinance and City of Roswell Subdivision Ordinance. These govern everything from setback requirements to development standards for all design and construction within the city limits.

The Planning and Zoning Department works closely with our citizens, City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, and many other city departments to make our community a healthy and safe place to live.

Are you thinking about replacing your fence, installing a storage shed, building a carport, or widening your driveway? If so, and you live in the city, you likely need to obtain a permit. Please learn more about when a permit is required.

You can find more information about permitting and other requirements for specific projects by reading the articles in the Community Development "Proper Permitting and Planning" series.
