How To Access E-Books and E-Audiobooks in OverDrive


Overdrive is compatible with mobile devices that support iOS, Android and Kindles.  Overdrive is also able to access materials on the computer or laptop.

To access the e-Books and e-Audiobooks in our OverDrive digital collection using your mobile device or computer:

Mobile Device App (iOS, Android, Kindle Fire):

  1. Download Overdrive Media Console from the App or Play Store
  2. Install and Open the Overdrive app
  3. Sign up for the Overdrive account using either your library card, Facebook, or email
  4. After creating account "Add A Library"; search the zip code "88201" to find the Roswell Public Library
  5. Favorite the Roswell Public Library by tapping on the star and tapping once more on the Roswell Public Library to be directed to our Overdrive e-Book and e-Audiobook catalog
  6. Sign into your account with your library card number and your 4 digit pin number (If you do not have your 4 digit pin number you will need to stop at the Circulation desk in the library to obtain it)
  7. You can browse collections by either scrolling the homepage of the catalog, browse genres, browse format type or conduct a search by author, title or subject
  8. Once you have found the title you like tap on the cover of the book, hit borrow, select format type EPUB (the Overdrive app will only recognize EPUB formats) and then tap "Add to App" for it to be sent to your bookshelf

Older Kindles:

  1. Open your library's OverDrive website
  2. Find a Kindle Book to borrow. You can:
    • Tap or mouse over a title, then select more to go to the title's details page. The details page lists the formats available for that title, including Kindle Book (if available).
    • Run a search, then narrow your results by selecting Kindle Book under the "Format" filter.
    • Use the advanced search and choose Kindle Book in the "All formats" drop-down menu
  3. Once you find an available Kindle Book, select Borrow to borrow it.
    If prompted, sign in
  4. Find the eBook you've borrowed on your Checkouts page (under your Account) on your library's OverDrive website. From there, select Download, then Kindle Book, then Confirm & get Kindle Book.                                                                                           You'll be taken to Amazon's website to complete checkout and send the eBook to your Kindle device or reading app.

    If you're already signed into Amazon, continue to step 5. If you're not signed into Amazon, skip to step 6.
  5. If you're signed into Amazon, select a device or reading app from the "Deliver to:" drop-down menu, then select Get library book. The book will be sent to your Kindle device or reading app, and you'll find it on your device or app's home screen                                                        Note: You must complete this step for the library book you borrowed to show up in your "Manage Your Content and Devices" list in your Amazon account. If the library book does not appear in this list, you won't be able to download it on any device.
  6. If you're not already signed into Amazon, select Get library book. You will be prompted to sign in.
  7. After signing in, a page will open where you can select the device or reading app where you'd like to send the book you borrowed.
    Select Continue.                                                           Note: You must complete this step for the library book you borrowed to show up in your "Manage Your Content and Devices" list in your Amazon account. If the library book does not appear in this list, you won't be able to download it on any device.
Once a book is on your Kindle device or reading app, open it from your device or app's home screen to begin reading. If you want to read the eBook on a different Kindle device or app, you can download it again during the lending period.

Computer:

  1. Go to our Overdrive Catalog
  2. Sign into your library account with your library card number and your 4 digit pin number (If you do not have your 4 digit pin number you will need to stop at the Circulation desk in the library to obtain it)
  3. You can browse collections by either scrolling the homepage of the catalog, browse genres, browse format type or conduct a search by author, title or subject
  4. Once you have found the title you like click on the cover of the book, click "Borrow" and then select "Read Now"
