Biography


Elected to his fifth term March, 2016, Councilor Steve Henderson serves on the Finance and General Services Committees of the Roswell City Council. In addition to his regular City Council duties, Councilor Henderson serves as Treasurer and Board Member of the Southeastern New Mexico Economic Development District. He is an elected Board Member of the New Mexico Municipal League and an appointed member of the Human Development Policy Committee, National League of Cities.

Community Leader


An experienced community leader, Councilor Henderson currently serves on the Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Roswell Committee. Councilor Henderson has served as president/chair for the Roswell Chamber of Commerce, ENMU-R College Board, Main Street Roswell, Roswell Association of Realtors, Realtors Association of New Mexico, Roswell Rotary Club, St. Mary’s Hospital, Christian Churches of New Mexico, Rio Hondo District of the Boy Scouts of America, the Salvation Army and the Chaves County Cancer Society. He is a six year veteran of the New Mexico Army National Guard.

Education & Honors


A graduate of Roswell High School with a Master of Business Administration degree from Eastern New Mexico University, Councilor Henderson is a Certified Municipal Official awarded by the New Mexico Municipal League. He has received special honors from the Roswell Association of Realtors, New Mexico Realtors Association, Keep New Mexico Beautiful, Chaves County Commissioners, Leadership Roswell Alumni Association, New Mexico Municipal League, ENMU-R and the New Mexico Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee. Councilor Henderson is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and Elks Lodge No. 969.

Background


Councilor Henderson worked in the private sector for thirty-two years in real estate brokerage and wholesale building supplies. He completed his working career in the public sector working for the City of Roswell for fourteen years as an administrator in property management and grant administration. During his tenure with the city, Councilor Henderson managed the city’s properties and over $7 million in grant and legislative money for a variety of projects such as Housing Rehab, Roswell Recycles, Main Street Reconstruction, Convention and Civic Center, Streets and Drainage, Pecos Trails Transit, Boys and Girls Club, Levi Strauss Re-Training, Roswell Independent Schools Beautification, Roswell Parks and the Roswell Museum and Art Center.

Family


Steve is married to his high school sweetheart, Carol Jane Roberts, a retired Goddard High School teacher. They have four grown children and five grandchildren. He enjoys his work on the city council, family, good friends and travel.
