Councilor Art Sandoval was born and raised in Roswell, NM. He graduated from Roswell High School in 1992. He then attended Eastern New Mexico University-Portales and graduated with a degree in Sociology/Psychology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, and a minor in Health Education. While attending ENMU he played baseball for the Greyhounds. After that he attended College of the Southwest to obtain a teaching certification in the area of Special Education.
In 1999 Councilor Sandoval became a special education teacher at Roswell High School. He also coached football and baseball at Roswell High School and has been the Head Softball coach for the last nine years. He is currently the Dean of Students at Mesa Middle School, has been named coach of the year for both football and softball three times. In 2008 he was selected to be the Head Softball Coach for the south, in the north/south all-star game.
March of 2010, Councilor Sandoval was elected to the Roswell City Council for his third term. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Fire Committee, a member of the Finance Committee, and Sanitation Committee for the Roswell City Council. He is the liaison for the Ambulance Administrative Oversight Committee. He has served as the Chairman for the Police Committee, a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee, Utilities and Transportation Committee, and was involved with Streets and Alleys Committee. Councilor Sandoval served as Mayor Pro-Tem from March 2007 - March of 2009.
Councilor Sandoval has been married to his wife Lisa for 15 years; she is the Athletic Trainer and a teacher at Roswell High School. They have two daughters, Sheyanne and Victoria Sandoval.
