Street pavement maintenance uses 'hot recycling'

Hot Recycle Scarifier

Pavement maintenance operations will take place on several Roswell streets during the next approximately four weeks. Residents and businesses will receive printed information regarding the work about two days before operations begin in their area.

The current schedule (subject to change as a result of factors such as inclement weather and equipment breakdowns):

Aug. 29-30 - North Washington Avenue, from College Boulevard to 19th Street

Aug. 29-Sept. 6 - Sycamore Avenue, from Bland Street to alley north of Eighth Street (no work Aug. 31-Sept. 2 during Labor Day weekend)

Sept. 6-12 – West Alameda Street, from Saucedo Avenue to Sunset Avenue

Sept. 12-27 - South Main Street, from Martin Street to Jaffa Street

The “hot recycling” operations will require the contractor’s crew to close some traffic lanes and possibly some complete portions of streets at various times. The pavement heaters used in the work produce extreme heat to soften the existing pavement, so citizens should keep vehicles and other items a significant distance from the curb while the work is being done in their area.

Hot recycling involves heating the existing pavement, removing debris from it, repaving with it, and compacting the pavement.
