Definition and Distinguishing Characteristics
This is advanced, skilled clerical and secretarial work. Work of this class involves providing advanced clerical support for a particular function and/or secretarial support to an administrative superior. Work of this class may also extend to limited supervisory responsibility for a small to moderate-size clerical staff where full supervisory responsibility for hiring and firing is maintained at a higher level within the organization.
Work of this class is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and requires independent attention to detail. Employees are expected to exercise some discretion in handling requests for department services. However, unusual cases requiring exceptions are referred to a superior for resolution. The work requires knowledges that can be learned on the job with supervisory participation. Assists and acts in a confidential capacity to the department head. Some positions in this class may exercise technical and procedural supervision over clerical subordinates. However, supervisory responsibility is not a necessary criterion for allocation to this class. Work usually originates through demands of the general public or other governmental agencies for service. However, employees in this class may also be expected to assist in the planning and developing of new work responsibilities and new clerical methods of providing services in area assigned. Employees in this class receive only general supervision, with work reviewed primarily in terms of an error-free operation. Work usually involves conditions requiring explanation of policies and applicable rules, regulations and administrative decisions. Work also involves considerable contact with City employees and the general public.
Typical Examples of Work Performed
Maintains confidential information regarding department functions and/or employees.
May act as secretary to high level professionals.
May perform highly skilled typing tasks involving advanced word processing equipment using personal computers or typewriters.
May perform data entry/retrieval functions on the City’s mainframe or personal computers.
May direct the performance of tasks performed by positions allocated to the class Clerical Assistant I or II.
Composes and types answers on moderately complex matters related to work area, requests information, prepares a variety of reports, specifications, tabulations and similar material.
May relieve front desk personnel for short periods.
Interviews visitors, answers questions relating to departmental operation; maintains studio art class registrations.
May drive City vehicles.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures and efficient clerical processing methods.
Considerable knowledge of English language, spelling and grammar.
Extensive knowledge of the specifics regarding the specialized clerical area in which position functions.
Some positions may be required to possess a knowledge of a specialized vocabulary as requested by the using department.
Knowledge of membership programs such as DBASE, Filemaker Pro, Access or other computer data programs.
Skill in the use of mainframe and personal computer systems for entry and retrieval of records.
Demonstrated full-functioning typing skill at a minimum rate of 60 wpm without errors.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding department functions and employees.
Ability to control and process information received from a wide variety of sources and disseminate it to an equally wide variety of users.
Ability to make decisions in accordance with general clerical or procedural guidelines and often relying on precedents established by past administrative decisions.

Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, preferably supplemented by formal course work in Business Administration, Secretarial Science or related field, and four years' increasingly responsible clerical experience, one year of which must have been at the level of Clerical Assistant II or above.
Necessary Special Qualification
Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico and have a satisfactory driving record.

Definition and Distinguishing Characteristics
This is specialized work supporting the Museum’s curatorial staff in the installation and removal of exhibitions. Work involves the application of a specialized body of knowledge, in conservation, in the fabrication of exhibit furniture, and experience in the archival preparation and handling of valuable and fragile works of art and artifacts requiring a sensitivity to and interest in southwestern art, history and cultures.
Work is performed in accordance with professional standards and practices as well as the operating policies and procedures of the Roswell Museum and Art Center. While work is performed under the specific supervision of the Museum Director the work requires a considerable amount of independent judgement. The employee’s performance is reviewed in terms of the competence, thoroughness, and the timeliness demonstrated in the performance of the assignment.
Typical Examples of Work Performed
Provides advisory consultation on archival preparation and installation of exhibition objects.
Prepares pre-exhibition gallery preparation including cleaning, spackling and painting.
Prepares shipping crates and exhibit furniture including panels, pedestals, vitrines (plexiglass cases), and fixtures/mounts for the installation of exhibition objects.
Assists the curatorial staff in the transport and/or receipt, unpacking, moving, installation, removal, and subsequent repacking of exhibitions as required.
Prepares collection objects for exhibition and installation to include cleaning, matting and framing according to established policies and standards.
Assists in the preparation of material in support of an exhibition including object labels and interpretive text panels.
Assists in the maintenance and appearance of the displays in the galleries.
Maintains the workshop area including the organization and ordering of supplies and materials.
May drive City vehicles.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of conservation materials and procedures in the handling and preparation of objects for display or transport.
Knowledge of hand tools and workshop-level power tools.

Definition and Distinguishing Characteristics
This is skilled, journeyman-level work in one of the major building maintenance or construction trades. Work involves the performance of journeyman-level tasks in either carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, boiler operation, heating, ventilation and cooling systems or other related trades.
Work is performed in accordance with generally accepted trade practices and safety practices with the employee expected to apply learned knowledges and skills in order to make construction and maintenance decisions. Some work is performed in close tolerances or at heights involving responsibility for safety considerations. The work requires some pre-employment training or experience but many of the knowledges and skills can be learned on-the-job but only with considerable experience. Work does not necessarily involve supervisory responsibility. However, employees may be assigned a helper for certain projects. General supervision is received from a superior who reviews work primarily through observation of completed projects.
Typical Examples of Work Performed
Some positions perform journeyman-level plumbing work in the installation and repair of water pipes, sinks, toilet fixtures, automatic sprinkler systems for fire protection and other plumbing fixtures common to commercial and public buildings.
Some positions perform journeyman-level carpentry work, remodels office areas, constructs buildings or additions to buildings, builds shelving and cabinets, operates standard hand and power woodworking tools, builds and sets concrete forms, pours and finishes concrete and may perform brick work or other masonry tasks.
Some positions perform painting tasks, mixes and prepares paint, prepares surfaces and applies paint to a variety of surfaces.
Some positions may install, maintain and operate mechanical equipment such as boilers, heating systems, air conditioning and cooling systems.
May be required to wear and use a respirator.

Work is performed in accordance with clearly established routines and procedures. Work involves limited decision-making, although employees are expected to exercise good sound judgment in maintaining discipline when controlling the activities of recreation program participants. Work involves no supervision of others and is supervised directly by a higher ranking Recreation Department employee.
