Appointed in January 2020, Councilor Margaret R. Kennard is excited to take her community experiences and serve as a part of the Roswell City Council.
Born in southwest New Mexico, as a young child Margaret moved with her family to Chaves County where she grew up and graduated from Dexter High School. She earned an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell and then a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from Eastern New Mexico University. Margaret has worked as business license clerk, a NM Corrections Department probation and parole officer, and an administrator with an oil field pump and supply company.
Councilor Kennard is a graduate of from the Roswell Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Roswell program, Class of 2015, she was elected President by her class. After a one year term organizing the program as President, she has continued to serve as the Program Director, overseeing the program for the past 4 years. She has served as a member of the Leadership Roswell Alumni Board, the Chaves Country Republican Party, and the Chaves County Federation of Republican Women. She currently serves on the DWI Planning Council and serves as the PAC Chair for the New Mexico Federated Republican Women.
Margaret is married to John Kennard and they have six children. She has been very involved in her children’s activities and keeps her family a priority. The Kennard family is committed to Roswell because they believe Roswell is a great community.
