The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is home to the Roswell Police Department's detectives. The detectives investigate crimes, with the goal of criminals being arrested and incarcerated. To become a detective, an officer must have at least two years of experience with the RPD. Members of CID work to decipher and analyze many aspects of crimes that have been committed. The District Attorney's Office, with the information generated by the work of detectives, decides appropriate criminal charges to pursue in court against offenders. The types of cases handled by CID includes a wide variety, ranging from homicides and child abuse to burglaries and internet crimes. A CID clerical assistant handles all transcriptions for the detectives, as well as manages telephone calls and maintains CID databases.
Public Assistant Matters
The Criminal Investigations Division is always eager to hear from members of the public who may have potential information about a criminal case. Sometimes people know something regarding a crime, but are reluctant to share the information with detectives. Please remember, when detectives are pursuing facts and other information (whether it is from a witness to a crime or perhaps someone who heard something from another person), any information that anyone has to offer is beneficial as detectives work to solve crimes. All tips are greatly appreciated. Anonymous tips can also be called in to Chaves County Crime Stoppers, 888-594-8477. Detectives can also be contacted by email.
Solving Crimes, Serving Victims
The CID's commitment to solving crimes and ensuring criminals are behind bars can help ease the fears, anxieties and pain often experienced by victims and/or their families. One veteran detective described what he likes most about the job as "being able to help those who are unable to defend themselves." The detectives play a large role in providing relief, a sense of peace, or some level of closure for victims and their families by seeking to make sure cases are solved and lawbreakers punished.
