Participate in Museum Day Roswell, a free event taking place on Saturday, September 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that encourages exploration of our local museums in recognition of the extraordinary power of museums to provide insight and inspiration! 

Admission is free* and each venue will be offering different opportunities from art activities to scavenger hunts, tours and even a flight-simulator experience! Enter a free drawing at each venue to win fun museum merchandise and memberships, and those who visit every museum that day and get stamps in a passport activity will be entered into a larger drawing.

*Visitors must bring an event postcard, available at the other 6 venues, for free entry to the UFO Museum.

Roswell Museum

The Roswell Museum will be offering a hands-on activity from 10 am to 1 pm and a free 11 am planetarium show, along with several great exhibitions, including Patrociño Barela: I Stand On My Own Feet which presents woodcarvings by the groundbreaking New Mexico artist whose short, but prolific, career transformed wood into abstract sculptures. The exhibition's curator, Aaron Wilder, will be present from 10:30 to noon to give brief tours and answer questions.

Historical Society for Southeast New Mexico

The Historical Society for Southeast New Mexico will offer special tours, a goody bag, refreshments, and additional surprise promotions. Also, a gift will be provided with any purchase in the gift shop.

New Mexico Military Institute McBride Museum

The McBride Museum features twelve exhibit spaces featuring various aspects of the history of New Mexico Military Institute, including “The Horses of NMMI”, “Women of NMMI”, “Sports”, the “Early-Era Cadet Dorm Room” and “The NMMI Hall of Fame.” 

Museum staff will assist visitors with creating their own print from a collection of printing blocks using an early printing press.

The Miniatures & Curious Collections Museum

The Miniatures & Curious Collections Museum showcases full house miniatures and room boxes, vignettes, two curious collection exhibits, gift shops and a children's play area. 

Staff will have a self-playing piano entertaining Museum Day visitors!

Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art

Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art showcases more than 500 artworks by participants in the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program. 

Get a quick glimpse of the variety and quality of the artworks on display and have your picture taken sitting at our knotted table!

Walker Aviation Museum

The Walker Aviation Museum is a large room located near the TSA check-in area in the Roswell Air Center Terminal. The Museum has photos and artifacts that illustrate the history of the Roswell Army Air Field during WWII and Walker Air Force Base during the Cold War until the base closure in 1967. As part of a youth career orientation program, there will be two flight simulators in operation for this event for visitors over 11 years old. Complimentary cookies and small foam aircraft kits will also be available.

International UFO Museum & Research Center

The International UFO Museum & Research Center was organized to inform the public about what has come to be known as "The Roswell Incident." The Museum is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to the collection and preservation of materials and information in written, audio and visual formats that are related to the 1947 Roswell Incident and other unexplained phenomena related to UFO research. 

Must have postcard with the passport activity card to gain free admission to the UFO Museum & Research Center. Card is available at all other locations.
