Volunteer Descriptions
Docent
Docents lead guided tours of the Museum’s exhibitions for visiting groups. They undergo extensive training in the arts, history, culture, and science then share their knowledge with visitors of all ages.
Curiosity and independent study are required. Knowledge of art, history, anthropology, and/or public education is helpful.
Greeters
Greeters are the front-line receptionists. They provide the following services:
Make visitors feel welcome
Provide directions and help answer questions about the exhibitions and other tourism interests
Follow up with visitor experiences
Promote programs, events, classes, and membership
Training and resources are provided.
Events
Event volunteers serve as hosts and hostesses during Museum events.
Opportunities include:
Set-up, serving, and clean-up
Assisting with hands-on activities
Providing hospitality as Greeters
Collections
Collections volunteers work behind the scenes, working with the art and artifacts.
They assist with photographing items, cataloging/documenting, and maintaining the collections inventory.
Attention to detail and familiarity with computers is helpful.
