Exhibition Overview
Based upon introspective reflections and impressions, the paintings of David Hines evolve out of an internal dialogue, which is revealed in his choice of images. With their seemingly mundane subject matter, these paintings evoke a sense of déjà vu within the imagination of most every viewer. What are the elements that Hines skillfully employs to bring the gallery visitor into his dialogue?

The answers to this question reveal that each work responds to a mixture of feelings, ideas, and longings that since his early childhood have played a critical role in the formation of his world perspective. Hines states that his series of Night Paintings “ … seem … to be the most poignant expression of my artistic goals.” Through his medium, Hines clearly defines where his internal and external worlds meld, as he “explores the outposts of human habitability. Mystery and loneliness are the themes that unite all of the night work … and … the infinity that darkness suggests.”
