Exhibition Overview

In 2015, the Roswell Museum and Art Center received an important gift of 39 works by Carlsbad artist and printmaker Roderick Mead (1900-1971), a bequest from the Marilyn T. Joyce Trust. Originally from New Jersey, Mead spent the 1930s in Paris at Atelier 17, one of the most innovative printmaking workshops in Europe at the time. Directed by innovative printmaker Stanley William Hayter, Atelier 17 attracted the likes of Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, and Yves Tanguy. In the 1940s, Mead returned to the United States, eventually settling in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he continued to produce innovate paintings and prints. This exhibit will showcase the works donated by the Marilyn T. Joyce Trust. The RMAC is excited to have this generous bequest, and is eager to share it with visitors.
