Second Saturday is here again! And this one you cannot miss! We are Sirius-ly dog crazy here at the museum. Celebrating the work of Roy de Forest, we will be drawing man’s best friend! Special furry and adoptable guests from the Human Society, Roswell Animal Services and regional rescues will be popping by for a little stick throwing action. Find out how you can help or just give some friendly scratches to the good boys and girls.

The 11am Planetarium showing is a double-feature:

WAITING FAR AWAY: An explorer of the cosmos has traveled too far… And can’t find home. Follow in the footsteps of a cosmic traveler as he shares a wild story. Find out what grand mysteries he has uncovered while journeying deep into intergalactic space, searching…

SOLAR QUEST is a planetarium short feature that demonstrates and provides an overview of the Sun – Earth environment. Detailed and high quality animations and videos demonstrate various solar phenomena such as fusion, light energy and solar surface features and phenomena. The show also discusses the impacts that space weather may have and how the Earth’s atmosphere and magnetic field protects all life on Earth. Highlighted in the show is the role of the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and how scientists have begun to use it as a way to help identify and predict severe space weather.
