The Roswell Police Department will be “swearing in” a young honorary member Friday, March 4, as part of a fun-filled day in Roswell for this special visitor.
Davarjaye “DJ” Daniel is a 10-year-old boy from Houston who is battling what has been diagnosed as terminal cancer. DJ’s dream has been to become a police officer, and with the help of his parents and a multitude of law enforcement agencies in numerous states, he is doing that the best way he can many times over.
DJ has been sworn in as an honorary member of an ever-growing number of agencies and he will add to his total when he and his father, Theodis Daniel, along with DJ’s two brothers, Demariyae, 11, and Deondraye, 10, make a stop in Roswell to become a special part of RPD. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Roswell Police Department (128 W. Second St.) at 1 p.m. Other local law enforcement agencies have been invited to attend and swear in DJ to their agencies, as well. The event will be open to the public.
RPD invited DJ to visit Roswell after the department learned of his story from a police captain in Memphis, Tenn. One of RPD’s lieutenants met the Memphis captain while recently attending the FBI National Academy in Virginia. When the Memphis captain became aware of DJ’s journey, she shared information with members of the FBI academy class.
While DJ is in Roswell, RPD personnel will take DJ and his family to visit some of the local attractions, will stop downtown for lunch provided by McDonald’s, and will experience another swearing-in of sorts. DJ will be at the Robert H. Goddard Planetarium for a private event to include seeing a show, receiving the key to the city and being sworn in as a Men in Black agent, giving a nod to the movie.
