After entering the national country music scene by being named the best New Vocal Group of the Year at the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards, Midland has seen its popularity continue to climb. Now Midland will bring its music to Southeast New Mexico as the headliner concert during Roswell’s 2022 UFO Festival.
The all-ages concert will take place Saturday night, July 2, at DeBremond Stadium. Gates open at 5 p.m., with the opening acts to begin at 5:30 p.m. Midland is scheduled to take the stage around 8:30 p.m. Tickets ($15 general admission; $100 VIP front-row table) can be purchased online at ufofestival.com.
Lead vocalist Mark Wystrach fronts Midland’s rich sound that is rounded out with lead guitarist/vocalist Jess Carson and bass player/vocalist Cameron Duddy. Rooted in tradition in both sound and style, the trio formed Midland in 2016 in Dripping Springs, Texas, and initially garnered attention playing clubs in the region.
Their critically-acclaimed sophomore album LET IT ROLL earned the No. 1 position on Billboard’s Top Country Album Sales chart upon release, receiving praise from outlets such as Rolling Stone, Variety, NPR and Entertainment Weekly. Wystrach, Carson and Duddy all played an integral role in writing the 14-track album with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. The album was produced by Dann Huff, McAnally and Osborne and was a follow-up to the critically-acclaimed, GOLD-certified debut album, ON THE ROCKS. Launching in 2017 to rave reviews, ON THE ROCKS was declared “the year’s best Country album” by The Washington Post.
Their Double-Platinum-certified chart-topping debut “Drinkin’ Problem,” which offers a nod to country music reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s, earned the band its first GRAMMY Awards nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
Midland was named New Vocal Group of the Year at the 2018 ACM Awards and was nominated for Vocal Group of the Year in 2020. The group recently announced its next full-length album, THE LAST RESORT: GREETINGS FROM, is set for release May 6. The first single off the album, “The Last Resort,” can be heard here.
Also performing at the UFO Festival concert, which will offer food vendors and a beer garden, will be country music artists William Clark Green, a Texas Country chart topper, and Laci Kaye Booth, a former American Idol contestant.
