There is going to be a stampede at Spring River Zoo this weekend, but it’s not the animals that will be stampeding. The zoo will host a Kids Stampede this Saturday, April 9, that will offer children ages 12 and younger the opportunity for a fun half-mile run through the zoo with some special stops along the way at some of the animal exhibits.
The Kids Stampede begins at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $10 per child (adults can accompany their children during the run as needed). Children will run in their respective age groups: 10-12, 7-9, 4-6 and 4 and younger. Registration can be done online here or on Saturday at the zoo beginning at 8 a.m.
As the kids stampede through the zoo, they will make stops at six Stampede Stations at which they will do their best imitations of a particular animal’s method of locomotion. The stations are:
- Station 1- Stampede Like a Bison
- Station 2- Dawdle Like a Turtle
- Station 3- Fly Like an Eagle
- Station 4- Swim Like a Beaver
- Station 5- Leap Like a Lemur
- Station 6- Gallop Like a Pony
All participants will get a medal and T-shirt. The top finishers will also get trophies.
