Anyone who has had possessions lost or stolen in the Roswell area in the last couple years will have the opportunity this Saturday (Nov. 19) to see if any of the items have been recovered by or turned in to the Roswell Police Department.
A “Property Return Day” will take place Saturday outside the police department (128 W. Second St.) from 8 a.m. to noon. Citizens can look at the items in RPD possession on the east side of the building. People should park in the public parking area adjacent to North Richardson Avenue and then walk around the southeast corner of the building.
People should bring police reports if they reported the lost or stolen items to the RPD or another agency. Even if an item was lost or stolen outside of the city, it could have turned up in the city and ended up at the RPD. A police report, photographs of the item, a serial number, or other means to verify ownership of an item will be required. People should also bring their own photo identification.
RPD officials are hoping to return a variety of items to the proper owners. The items include many bicycles. Most of the items have come into the custody of the department within the last two years approximately.
Even when someone has filed a report with the police department or another agency, lost or stolen items can be difficult to return if someone’s address or phone number has changed since the report was filed and that person has not informed the proper agency of the changes in contact information. Other items that have been turned in to the RPD have not been reported by their owners as lost or stolen. If an item has some sort of contact information with it, officers attempt to contact the person. However, sometimes those attempts are unsuccessful or there is no contact information found with the item.
