[ARCHIVED] A holiday message

From the Chief with patch (website)

A holiday message from the Roswell Police Department and the Chief of Police:

Dear Roswell community members,

It is our wish for all of you to have a happy and safe holiday season. During this time, I want to, on behalf of our entire agency, thank all of you for your wonderful support of our Roswell Police Department.

It is at this time of the year we at the police department may have the unfortunate task of having to respond to terrible holiday tragedies. This does not have to be the case, however.

This holiday season, let's all take some control of our actions, and appreciate those who love us and support us. Look around your holiday dinner table and appreciate those who are celebrating (near or far) with you. Look around at the younger members of your family, and provide the appropriate guardianship and instruction to ensure they make good decisions. No one is perfect, but there are always opportunities to be good role models and show how much we care about one another.

Let's all make this holiday season a safe one, and let's show how much we care about our families, friends and community by providing caring guardianship and help to all of those who need guidance. Let’s not wait for the “too-late” scenario, because it's never too late to care for others and to try to prevent poor decisions and avoid negative holiday-season memories.

Roswell is a good community, with strong values and sense of belonging. Let’s not allow this season to come and go without giving thanks and taking care.
Philip A. Smith Jr.
Chief of Police
