Juan David Villegas, the man accused of murdering his wife and four daughters at the family’s Roswell home in the 2300 block of Davis Avenue last June, was returned from Mexico to Roswell March 29. He fled to Mexico, where he is originally from, immediately after the June 11, 2016, shooting murders and was captured by Mexican authorities the following day.

The U.S. Marshals Service and the N.M. Attorney General’s Office, with assistance from the Fifth Judicial District Attorney's Office, worked on behalf of RPD to complete the months-long extradition process. Villegas, 35, was returned to the United States in the custody of U.S. marshals and was turned over to RPD to be booked into the Chaves County Detention Center.

The bodies of Villegas' wife, Cynthia, 34, and the couple’s four daughters, Yamilen, 14, Cynthia Janeth, 11, Abigayl, 7, and Idaleigh, 3, were found inside the Davis Avenue home late the night of June 11, 2016. Other family members had gone to the house when they could not reach the family by phone. One of the people who had come to the house to check on the family partially entered an open window and saw one of the victims. That person pulled back out of the house and RPD was called.

Three days after the murders, a grand jury indicted Juan Villegas on five counts of first-degree murder and four counts of intentional child abuse resulting in death. His case will now proceed in District Court.
