Two people were injured in two separate shooting incidents the night of April 27 in south Roswell. The shootings occurred within an hour and half of each other, but Roswell Police Department investigators do not believe the incidents are related.
The first incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of East Reed Street. Investigators believe a neighborhood dispute earlier in the evening led to two men from one house in that block of East Reed driving a pickup to another house in that block to confront others involved in the dispute. It is alleged one or more people from inside the house came out with guns and fired at the two men while they were still in the pickup. One of the men, age 30, was struck by one or more bullets resulting in injuries to his leg.
The men fled the area in the pickup and called police. RPD officers located the injured man in the parking lot of Farmer’s Country Market at the corner of Garden Avenue and East Second Street, several blocks from where the shooting is believed to have occurred. The shooting victim was transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police on East Reed used a police-car PA system to call for the exit of anyone inside the house at the site where the shooting had occurred. No one emerged from the house. The RPD SWAT team was called to enter the house to search for anyone inside. No one was found. The victim did not want to cooperate with police and did not want charges pursued, so further investigation is not being done at this time.
The second incident occurred about 9:50 p.m. in the 400 block of West Forest Street. A woman and her husband were sitting on the back patio of their house when an exchange of gunfire took place between two vehicles driving in a nearby alley. The woman, age 33, was struck by a bullet in her arm. It is believed the woman was not targeted by the shot, but was struck by a stray bullet from the exchange among the vehicles. She was transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
Investigators identified, located and questioned a potential suspect in this shooting shortly after the incident. However, no arrests were immediately made.
Anyone with potential information regarding this case is asked to call the Roswell Police Department at (575) 624-6770 or Chaves County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-594-TIPS(8477).
