The next Summer Sports Camp sponsored by the Roswell Adult and Recreation Center will be directed by Roswell’s own professional volleyball player Chantale Riddle. Riddle is a 2009 Roswell High School graduate and a three-sport all-state performer in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. She went on to play for the University of New Mexico and now plays professionally in Switzerland.
The June 26-29 volleyball camp is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 14. The cost is $30. The camp will be held at the New Mexico Military Institute’s Godfrey Center from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day. Interested participants can register at the Roswell Adult and Recreation Center at 807 N. Missouri Ave. or on the first day of the camp at the camp site.
“We are so excited and honored to have Chantale Riddle in town to conduct our summer volleyball camp. She brings so much talent to the sport,” says Roswell Adult and Recreation Center Supervisor Damian Cheatem.
Riddle graduated from UNM in 2014 after breaking several school records. As a volleyball player at UNM, she was named to All Mountain West First Team, All Pacific South Region Honorable Mention, and American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All America.
Currently, “Tellie” plays professionally in Switzerland as a right-side hitter for TS Volley Dudingen. She was recently honored as the Female New Mexico Athlete of the Year by the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame.
Riddle grew up in Roswell where she and her sister, Deja, were raised by their mom, Laura Riddle (who passed away in January 2015) and grandparents Larry and Shirley Williams. She credits the Roswell Parks and Recreation Department for introducing her to the sport of volleyball and teaching her the importance of exercise and wellness at an early age.
