[ARCHIVED] Cardiac-arrest patient meets her rescuers

Denise Dwyer meets her RFD EMTs (8-31-17) (website)

A cardiac-arrest patient who was revived through the efforts of RFD emergency medical technicians got to meet her rescuers, along with other emergency workers who played a role in saving her life during the incident.

Denise Dwyer called 911 from her home because she was having trouble breathing. She was speaking to a dispatcher when she suffered the cardiac arrest and became unresponsive. EMTs from RFD and Superior Ambulance responded to Ms. Dwyer’s home and began life-saving actions. She was eventually transported to the emergency room at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center where she received further care.

Ms. Dwyer and her rescuers reunited Aug. 31 at the hospital ER under much calmer and happier circumstances than the previous time they encountered each other. Pictured with Ms. Dwyer are RFD members, all of them EMTs (left to right), Battalion Chief Heath Metcalf, Firefighter Carlos Garcia, Fire Apparatus Operator Kenny Barncastle and Lt. Paul Sons. At the right is Ms. Dwyer’s son, Sterling Stark. In addition to the RFD EMTs, the emergency workers involved were Superior Ambulance EMTs Jamie Gutierrez and Jed Peacock, Pecos Valley Regional Communications Center dispatchers Terry Sykes and Rae Lynn Villarreal, and Eastern N.M. Medical Center ER Dr. Jeff Ruzich and nurses Trevor James, Jane Smith and Jimmy Jimenez.
