The Chaves County Metro Narcotics Task Force wrapped up October with its second seizure that month of a significant amount of methamphetamine, removing more of the illegal drugs from the streets of Roswell.

In the latest instance Oct. 31, agents from the task force – which includes multiple agencies and is led by the Roswell Police Department – seized approximately one and a half pounds of meth estimated to be worth about $35,000 if sold locally on the street. This follows a meth seizure in a separate case Oct. 9 that yielded two pounds of the illicit drug with an estimated street value of more than $46,000.

No arrests have yet been made in the Oct. 31 instance, but the case has been turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for pursuit of federal charges. Once the investigation proceeds further, arrest warrants are expected to be sought.

Task force agents on Oct. 31 made a traffic stop in the 1500 block of North Garden Avenue of a pickup truck for which they had obtained a search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation. A search of the truck, which was occupied by Randall Morris, 52, and Ann Knecht, 55, resulted in agents locating the one and a half pounds of meth, as well as nearly $2,000 in cash and a rifle.

The Oct. 9 seizure involved the arrest of Corry Hays, 25, at his home in the 1600 block of North Ohio Avenue. Task force agents went to the house that morning to serve a search warrant as part of a narcotics-trafficking investigation. Hays is facing state narcotics charges in connection with that case.
