[ARCHIVED] School Zone Traffic Safety - Zero Tolerance

school zone.jpg

The local school year began anew Aug. 12 in the Roswell Independent School District. Motorists are reminded to be aware when entering active school zones and slow down. The speed limit in most school zones is 20 mph. The police will have a zero tolerance stance towards speed limit violations.

Parking zones are designated to assist the smooth flow of traffic during drop off and pickup times. While the urge to disregard such zones is understandable, police officers will be aggressively ticketing parking violations.

Kids who are excited about meeting new friends and settling into their classes may not be paying as much attention as they should to traffic as they come and go from school. In addition, there will be a greatly increased amount of vehicle traffic around schools now that classes are in session. Please help make sure everyone is safe as we all travel in and around school zones. RPD wishes all students a productive and enjoyable school year.
