Young tennis players and others who would like to be tennis players have an upcoming opportunity to develop their game or simply get introduced to the game. In addition, tennis players of all ages and levels have a chance to compete soon in a popular annual local tournament.
**The City of Roswell Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring Summer Sports Camps, kicking off with the Tennis Camp May 28-31. The camp is for ages 6-14 and will take place each day 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Cahoon Park Tennis Courts. The cost is $30 (plus tax).
Participants are encouraged to bring their own racquets, although racquets will be available for those who do not have their own. All other supplies will be provided.

**The Brynn Naylor Memorial Tennis Tournament will be held at the Cahoon Courts June 2-3. Sponsored by Sunrise Rotary, the Roswell Tennis Association, Southeastern N.M. Tennis and the Roswell Parks and Recreation Department, this U.S. Tennis Association-sanctioned tournament offers open and age divisions in men’s, women’s and mixed events. Costs range from $18 to $24 depending upon the event.
Army Specialist Brynn Naylor was killed in Iraq in 2007 while serving his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was brought up in Roswell playing tennis on Cahoon Park tennis courts and was a Goddard High School tennis player. He played this tournament in 2007 just eight months before his death. The tournament has since been named after Naylor to honor his sacrifice.
