When the Roswell Convention and Civic Center reopens later this summer, it will have a new look, new spaces, new potential for larger events, and a new management company tasked with making the most of that potential. Spectra, one of the nation’s leading venue management, food services and hospitality companies that will be running the convention center, is now hiring the local staff who will fill the key positions at the convention center.

The Roswell City Council selected Spectra in March from among the bidders that submitted management-services proposals to the city. The city has previously managed its convention center itself, but decided to seek a specialized company to manage the facility in hopes of increasing the number and variety of events using what will be a newly expanded and renovated center. The city contract with Spectra was approved by the City Council in May. Spectra formally began its work in Roswell July 1. The convention center is expected to reopen in August.

“With seven other properties in New Mexico, including convention centers in Las Cruces and Clovis, and 34 other convention centers across the nation, Spectra is looking forward to bringing experience, resources and a professional management structure to Roswell,” Spectra’s Vice President of Business Development Tom McDonnell said. “We understand the significant investment the city is making in the Roswell Convention Center, and we look forward to booking a robust portfolio of dynamic events at the facility.”

While based in Philadelphia with clients across the country, Spectra is looking to hire local workers for the convention center. Available positions include general manager, sales and marketing manager, event manager, director of events/operations, accounting manager, and executive chef. A variety of part-time positions will be posted in the future.

“By hiring local residents to fill our available positions, we hope that we are showing our commitment to becoming a trusted community partner,” McDonnell said.

Anyone wishing to learn more about these positions, as well as submit an application, can do so online. The online links to each position are found on the Roswell Convention and Civic Center career page on the city website or can be accessed through Spectra’s online job listings.
