[ARCHIVED] Community Investment Project’s second lunch event set for Saturday

officer and kid CIP lunch (June 2018)

As the Community Investment Project continues, the Roswell Police Department and local business sponsors will be hosting a free public lunch event this Saturday (July 14) at Poe Corn Park in east Roswell. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The park is located on East Second Street just east of Garden Avenue. Those attending will be able to visit with officers while enjoying plenty of good food. The Roswell Fire Department will also be there offering children a chance to participate in the Kids Combat Challenge Course. The course lets kids test their skills at some firefighting-related activities.

Hot dogs, chips, pizza, cookies and drinks will be provided to the public from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The hot dogs and chips are being provided by Xcel Energy, the pizza by Domino’s, the cookies and water by Spring River Dental, and additional drinks by Otero Federal Credit Union. RPD and the City of Roswell thank these business sponsors for their key contributions to this event.

“Xcel Energy is excited to be a part of the 2018 Community Investment Project,” said Mike McLeod, Xcel Energy’s regional manager for community relations. “We see this as a great opportunity to bring our area neighborhoods together to get better acquainted with our local police department and, at the same time, discuss ways to work together to make our community a better place to live.”

In addition to helping with Saturday’s food and water, Spring River Dental will be distributing toothbrushes and information about maintaining good oral health.

“The doctors and staff at Spring River Dental are excited to be participating in this Community Investment Project,” said Dr. Michele Carter. “We are all active members in our community, committed to the health and well-being of the residents of Roswell. We appreciate any opportunity to connect with our patients and families outside of an office setting.

“Support of our local law enforcement encourages respect and appreciation of our fellow residents. While our goal is to improve and maintain oral health, we also hope to guide our patients toward positive lifelong habits and relationships.”

This is the second of three free public lunch events RPD and its business sponsors will host throughout the Community Investment Project taking place this spring and summer. The final one is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 4 (with sponsorship from Domino’s, Otero Federal Credit Union and Spring River Dental) at Carpenter Park.

The City of Roswell Code Enforcement Division is also participating in the Community Investment Project. Code Enforcement officers will be addressing properties in need of attention within the project areas, as well as helping residents with access to a number of resources available to suit their needs (lawn-service lists, vehicle-removal companies, building and fencing permit direction and referrals, and other resources).

Code Enforcement can help residents improve their neighborhoods by offering a variety of services. People can contact Code Enforcement (637-6280) to request assistance with disposal of unwanted items, cleanup of medians and cul-de-sac islands, alley cleanups and large-item removal, graffiti removal, and removal of dangerous or dead trees on city rights of way.
