A new monthly program offers people the chance to learn about Spring River Park and Zoo’s animals from those who take care of them every day.

The program, called “Keeper Talks,” began in November, when the talk featured the zoo's lemurs (pictured). On the second Saturday each month, zookeepers will give a talk about a specific animal at the zoo. The free presentations will be given four times on the given Saturday, at 10 a.m., 10:35 a.m., 11:10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Gathering at the animal's enclosure, zookeepers discuss habits of the animal, a history of how the animal came to Spring River Park and Zoo and other interesting facts. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions.

For more information regarding Keeper Talks or other events at Spring River Park & Zoo, call (575) 624-6760. People can also keep up with activities at the zoo by checking out the zoo’s Facebook page
