Roswell police officers are reaching out to the community, offering the citizens they serve – adults and children alike – a chance to get to know some of them while the officers also seek to hear concerns, questions and other input from residents during this year’s Community Investment Project.

The project was scheduled to get underway at the Roswell International Air Center area (the “Base”) Monday, June 10. As many days as possible (depending on staffing availability and need elsewhere) through June 21, the Roswell Police Department’s Mobile Command Center will be parked at the corner of West Wells Street and University Boulevard. Officers will be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then will be going throughout that neighborhood to talk to residents.

The Command Center will then move to Alice Reischman-Smith Park (on G Street between East Wells and East Eyman streets) through July 3. Officers will again be at the Command Center to visit with citizens and show them the vehicle from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. before heading out into that neighborhood to talk with residents.

The Command Center will move to two other locations, again being available to visit from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day when it can be there. Officers will again also be going through the neighborhoods of these areas during the specified days to talk to residents about any issues in their areas and any questions they have. The Command Center will be stationed at Poe Corn Park (East Second Street just east of Garden Avenue) from July 8 through July 19. It will be stationed at Carpenter Park (Buena Vista Street just east of Southeast Main Street) from July 22 through Aug. 2.

Each of the areas where the Command Center will be parked throughout this project will be a site where the Roswell Independent School District serves its free summer lunches (June 3-July 31) for school-age children from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition, the Roswell Police Department is hoping to host a pair of free public lunches with the help of local business sponsors. Tentative plans are for the Saturday lunches to be held June 29 at Alice-Reischman-Smith Park and July 27 at Carpenter Park. The Roswell Fire Department plans to be at the lunches offering children a chance to participate in the Kids Combat Challenge Course. The course lets kids test their skills at some firefighting-related activities. Details about the lunches will be announced as plans are finalized.

The City of Roswell Code Enforcement Division is also participating in the Community Investment Project. Code Enforcement officers will be addressing properties in need of attention within the project areas, as well as helping residents with access to a number of resources available to suit their needs (lawn-service lists, vehicle-removal companies, building and fencing permit direction and referrals, and other resources).

Code Enforcement can help residents improve their neighborhoods by offering a variety of services. People can contact Code Enforcement through the city’s Community Development Department (637-6280) to request assistance with disposal of unwanted items, cleanup of medians and cul-de-sac islands, alley cleanups and large-item removal, graffiti removal, and removal of dangerous or dead trees on city rights of way.
