The City of Roswell has improved and strengthened its online presence with this recently launched new website. The site uses the same address (www.roswell-nm.gov) as the city’s former website, but has an updated look and a myriad of information and features – many of them debuting on the new website – to serve both residents and visitors alike.
Those using the new website will be able to sign up for emergency email or text notifications, as well as notifications to alert them whenever new information is posted on the website. People can choose from a menu of options and select what interests them, from news releases (which can be specified by department) to events and meetings, or when a vacancy occurs on a committee, board or commission on which someone may be interested in serving. The website offers options that allow residents to pay a water bill online, print an application for things such as building permits and business licenses, and search the card catalog of the Roswell Public Library.
While someone pulls up the city website to check out the animals that are available for adoption at the animal shelter, someone else can be using the site to book a flight into or out of the Roswell International Air Center. While some citizens are keeping up to date with the latest news on the Police Department pages, others can be deciding which of the many activities and events offered by Parks and Recreation, the library or the Roswell Museum and Art Center they will take advantage of, and still others could be submitting their own community events for consideration of placement in the website’s calendar.
The new website was developed using input from staffers of many city departments, who worked with representatives of CivicPlus, the company contracted by the city to create the new website. CivicPlus, based in Manhattan, Kan., specializes in developing government websites.
In the past, numerous city departments have had their own individual websites. The city’s former main website offered links to some of those department websites, but none of the websites was directly connected to the other. The new city website brings all of its departments together as part of a central site, making user navigation more convenient, and visually connects individual departments’ webpages with a common city-wide design theme throughout the site while still maintaining each department’s uniqueness. (In addition, many city departments continue to keep citizens updated through the departments’ individual Facebook pages and other social media, which can be found through links on the city website.)
The new City of Roswell website allows citizens to email the mayor or city councilors, read city financial reports, review city job openings and apply online for a position, and report any issue that needs attention, such as a pothole, water leak, litter, non-working street light, damaged sidewalk or something else. Residents can electronically submit an application for a position on a city committee, board or commission. Companies and individuals can review bid requests and requests for proposals the city has open.
The abundance of online information also includes agendas and minutes from the city council and its subordinate panels, public bus routes, crime stats, and fire-safety tips from the Roswell Fire Department. In addition, those new to the community or considering a move to Roswell can take a look at the listings of schools, hospitals, churches and community service organizations, while visitors will find useful information about lodging options. The website also provides access to the Roswell Chamber of Commerce Relocation and Visitors Guide.
The information and features discussed here are a sampling of what is found on the new city website. The City of Roswell encourages you to keep exploring this site to discover everything it offers and how it can be of assistance to you.
