The 35th Annual Reindeer Run is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7. The event offers a competitive 10K run, 5K run and 5K walk, as well as the newly added non-competitive 2-mile walk/run. All races begin at 9 a.m. at the Roswell Adult Center at 807 N. Missouri Ave.
Participants in the 10K and 5K races will compete in nine age divisions in men’s and women’s categories. Age divisions are 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-70, and 70 and over. Overall male and female winners in each race will receive awards. First- through third-place finishers will receive medals in each age group. Commemorative T-shirts will be given to all participants.
“We love this event because everyone is really into the Christmas spirit,” says event organizer Daniel Franco of the city’s Recreation Department. “Our community’s health and wellness is a priority and this is just one of our many events that address these needs.”
The Reindeer Run is sponsored by the Roswell Recreation Department, Xcel Energy, N.M. Mounted Patrol, Chaves County Search and Rescue, and Pecos Valley Radio Club. Entry forms for the event are available at the Roswell Adult Center, the Roswell Recreation and Aquatic Center (1402 W. College Blvd.) or online at www.active.com. Pre-registration is taking place until race day. Registration on race day will be from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at the Adult Center.
Packet pick-up will be Friday, Dec. 6, at the center from 4 to 6 p.m. or on race-day morning from 7 to 8:30 a.m. The pre-registration fee for any of the races is $30, while race-day registration is $35 (no credit cards on race day). For more information, call (575) 624-6719.
In conjunction with the races, the Roswell Adult Center will be hosting its Third Annual Reindeer Run Arts and Crafts Fair. It is set for Friday, Dec. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 7, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Interested artisans and vendors can sign up at the Roswell Adult Center at 807 N. Missouri Ave. Cost to participate is $10 per eight-foot table. Space is limited. There is no admission fee for visitors to the event.
Organizers expect many unique handcrafted items to be available at the show. Items may include jewelry, ornaments, glass-blown decorations, paintings, clothing and more.
