[ARCHIVED] Summer Reading Program underway at library

Library Card T-Rex

Roswell Public Library’s Summer Reading Program “Tails and Tales” got underway June 1, and is open to both children and adults. Parents can come in to sign up themselves and their children, check out some books and receive a registration gift.

“We want everyone to read this summer,” said Tracy Frie, the library’s Children’s and Youth Librarian. “We know through a profuse amount of research that reading over the summer does make a difference in a student’s reading skills and scores. We also know, again from research, that everyone learns best when things are fun.”

Roswell Public Library will be giving out fun weekly prizes for reading, and more prizes for children who participate in the program for at least six weeks.

The library will also have free special interactive events for children and teens throughout the summer. Programs will be held outside, weather permitting. The first program is June 19 on henna tattoos (skin-surface designs using dye from the henna plant). STEM-activity programs and a tie-dye a T-shirt program are also planned.

The Summer Reading Program will run through July 31. Throughout the summer, the library will be sharing “Tales of T-Rex Reader,” the library’s reading mascot. At the end of the program, T-Rex Reader will find a new home with a participant of the summer reading program.

For more information about the Summer Reading Program or the schedule of the summer interactive programs, stop by or call the Roswell Public Library at (575) 622-7101.
