In June, July and August, two Saturdays each month will offer special experiences at Spring River Zoo. The zoo will host Zoofari Nights on the third Saturday of each month and will be home to Wild Summer Nights on the last Saturday of each month. These family-friendly, non-alcoholic events run from 4 to 8 p.m.
Each Zoofari Night will feature an outdoor movie (people should bring their own lawn chair or blanket), a “Keeper Talk” about an animal or other zoo-related topic, and s’mores stations. The movies will be Tarzan (June 19), Dolittle (July 17) and Madagascar (Aug. 21). Each Zoofari Night has an admission cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children. Discounted prices are available (adults $8, children $3) for zoo members. Information about memberships can be obtained by calling 624-6760.
Wild Summer Nights will be filled with live music, animal enrichment activities and a special theme for each night.
June 26 is Country Critters and will include a petting zoo/information station featuring the Roswell High School FFA chapter. Guests will receive a rib dinner as part of the admission cost of $35 for adults, $60 for couples and $15 for children. Adults and children with zoo memberships receive a $5 discount on tickets.
A Cornhole Clash will take place July 31 as people compete in a cornhole tournament with prizes for the winners. Aug. 28 is Howlin’ Karaoke. Details for each of these events are still being developed.
The zoo’s carousel will be available to ride at any of these events for an additional fee. Those at Zoofari Nights or Wild Summer Nights receive unlimited rides during the event night for $5. A season pass (three months) can be purchased for $25, giving someone access to carousel rides throughout the summer.
For more information and to purchase tickets to the first Zoofari Nights or Wild Summer Nights, go to springriverzoo.com and click on the Events tab. Future events in each of those series will be posted to the ticket-purchase site as the date for each event draws closer.
